Now that the new 'Dancing With the Stars' cast has been announced, their professional dance partners have dusted off their dancing shoes, and are busy preparing for an intense competition. The grueling practice sessions for the participating pairs are now underway. Derek Hough's partner Amber especially has big shoes to fill, as last season her professional dance partner and Kellie Pickler danced their way to the mirror ball trophy. In a TV Guide article dated, Friday, September 13, Hough blogged about his preparation.
The dancing champion first touched on the question he has been receiving about why he is returning this season.
"I wanted to be part of the show. We're going to once a week and I wanted to be part of that transition. It's a big transition for the show and I want to be here to support it and be behind it. I have no idea what the format is going to be. I think it's going to be a rollover where no one leaves the first week and the following week, we dance and at the end of the show, someone gets knocked out. I think what makes it fun and interesting is that there's going to be a payoff at the end of the show. There's going to be suspense. I have no idea how the voting is going to work. I'm sure they'll explain it all Monday," he wrote.
Hough shared that he also likes the fact that the new once a week format 'tightens up a show.' He is also a fan of receiving an extra half-day off.
Surprisingly, he also admits that he hasn't really had the chance to see a lot of the cast just yet.
"We go in to rehearsals and they're gone. But I've loved everyone I've met so far. It's a very eclectic cast. I think on paper, right now, some of the people who have dance experience like Corbin Bleu and Elizabeth Berkley might be favorites. I think Amber's experience is similar too. But you never know how the season will shake out. I'm excited to see Snooki. I hear she's really good, so I'm excited to see what she does. She'll definitely be better than The Situation!," he shared.
For those who are a 'Glee' and 'DWTS' fan, this will be the season to watch. Amber Riley is expected to score favorably on the dance floor. It sounds like she also has a fan in her pro dance partner as well. Despite a little injury, Hough believes she is going to shine this season.
"Amber's been awesome. She picks things up quickly. She kind of hurt her ankle a little bit. We have to work out what kind of shoe she's going to wear to help her. It's not a serious injury, but it's something that we have to keep an eye on because it could be. She says she has weak ankles and when you're wearing high heels, it can be dangerous. She hasn't seen a doctor yet, so we're just taking it day by day now. Amber surprised me when we started rehearsing and I think we're going to have a lot of fun. We have the cha-cha first. It's looking good. I'm excited to get out there to do it. It's a great song and she's cookin'!" Hough dished.
Clearly Hough is optimistic about all the changes taking place. Sounding as confident as ever, it seems as though he just may be a force to be reckoned with yet again.
"I think it's going to be a great season. There's a new energy this year with all the changes," he blogged.
A previous report suggested that even some of the 'DWTS' cast members believe that season 17 could end up being the strongest season yet. With an interesting and diverse cast that 'DWTS' fans are excited to tune in for, it seems as though this could be the season to watch. Bill Nye the Science Guy has particularly excited 'DWTS' fans, and even non 'DWTS' fans. Social media has suggested that the brainiac may cause a ratings increase. Leah Remini, Snooki, Valerie Harper, Jack Osbourne, and Snooki are just a few other contestants with massive fan bases.
The new season will premiere on ABC on September 16 at 8/7 c.
