Derek Hough, one of the favorite professional dancers from ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” recently said he may not be participating in season 16 of the show according to a Feb. 12 report on TV World.
TV World quoted the young dancer as saying "I don't know. As of now, I'm not sure I'm returning this season, in particular."
The three-time champion’s departure would be a tremendous loss to the show. He is considered one of the best choreographers the show has and judges frequently compliment his work. He has partnered Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Grey and current show cohost Brooke Burke Charvet to championships. He finished the All-Star season 15 with partner Shawn Johnson in second place.
It was his work in season 15, however, that might be responsible for him sitting out the upcoming season. During one of his performances with Shawn Johnson, he aggravated an old neck injury and was forced to sit out one week. Derek mentioned that he’d known for some time he was going to need surgery. Perhaps he is now taking the time he needs to take care of that injury.
Fortunately for fans, Hough added that he would definitely be back for the fall season.
Watch for the new season to kick off on Monday, March 18 on ABC.
