Derek Hough and Mark Ballas to star in new HGTV house flipping show

Ready to see Derek Hough rock a tool belt? The five-time “Dancing With the Stars” champ is set to team up with BFF Mark Ballas to launch a new home renovation and house flipping show on HGTV. According to a report on Tuesday from The Wrap, the new four-episode reality series, titled “Mark & Derek's Excellent Flip,” will feature the popular professional dancers as they tackle complicated home projects before attempting to flip the Southern California property that they purchased together earlier this year.

In a statement about the new series, Hough said, “Mark and I have worked together for years, but flipping a house is uncharted territory for us. This house is a significant investment in more ways than one, so we have to make this flip work. We're putting our own blood, sweat and money on the line.”

Ballas added that although he’s not exactly a DIY guy, he and his childhood friend “have good creative vision within several areas of the rebuild.”

The two pals will reportedly gut and rehab the entire property, participating in everything from the down and dirty demolition to the décor, so it will certainly be interesting to see them in a new setting that doesn’t involve a ballroom. But don’t be surprised if the “DWTS” alums get under each others’ skin as they tackle a series of serious renovations. Hough once told People that he and Ballas, who grew up together in London, were together 24/7 for eight years while growing up, and he said they definitely “know how to make each other mad.”

In February, Yahoo Celebrity reported that the lifelong friends and self-described “brothers” split the cost for the $1.275 million Studio City bachelor pad. The celeb site posted pictures of the 3,235-square-foot, mountain-view home, which boasts four bedrooms, four baths, hardwood floors, two living rooms with a shared fireplace, and a spacious wraparound deck with an enormous pergola.

The house was originally built in 1962 and hadn’t been on the market in 30 years before the two “Dancing With the Stars” alums bought it earlier this year.

“Mark & Derek's Excellent Flip” is currently slated to premiere in early 2015 on HGTV.
