ESPN.com reported earlier this afternoon that 9-1 underdog Dereck Chisora predicts he will knockout WBC heavyweight titlist "Dr. Iron Fist" Vitali Klitschko in the eighth round Saturday at Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany.
"I'm looking forward to this fight," Chisora, 28, said at the pre-fight press conference. "And I trained hard. And the way we're going to be fighting will be a hundred miles an hour from the first round to round eight, which I promise you fans he's going down on.”
Chisora (15-2, 10 KOs), a former British heavyweight titleholder who was born in Zimbabwe, continued his inane rant.
"Right now, I can smell fear in this corner right now. If you can't smell it, I can,” said Chisora, who has lost two of his past three fights. “You know, right here I smell a bit of fear, to the opposite side, because they know they're going to lose something massive. I'm physically, emotionally and mentally looking forward to this fight because it's going to be one heck of a fight, I tell you that now.”
Klitschko (43-2, 38 KOs), who has never been involved in a prizefight that he wasn’t winning at the end on the scorecards, has emerged victorious in 11 consecutive bouts.
Furthermore, the giant and indomitable Ukrainian has never once been floored in his career as a prizefighter.
"I'm really looking forward to teaching this young gentleman a lesson. He is from Great Britain, but he's lacking appropriate manners," said the elder Klitschko, 40, who hasn’t been trumped since June 2003. "You promised to knock me out in eight rounds. I was so impressed and believed you, and because of this impression I go to training camp. And they prepared me very hard... This belt, I don't give you on Saturday night. You don't have a chance. You have a try. You have a chance to try."
Roger "Pit" Perron is a venerable boxing trainer from Brockton (Mass.) who now works with Mike and Rich Cappiello at their gym, Cappiello Brothers Boxing and Training.
“Chisora’s in over his head against Klitschko,” said Perron, 75, who worked with International Boxing Hall of Famer Marvelous Marvin Hagler. “He can’t mess with that monster.”
“I promise you fans,” Vitali Klitschko will render Dereck Chisora unconscious within six rounds this weekend and "I'm really looking forward to” it.
