Bad karaoke blamed for orange assault by Naples man

A Naples man is behind bars after he allegedly assaulted the mother of his infant son with oranges on Sunday, according to a media release obtained by Examiner.com.

Collier County deputies responded to a call at a Naples home around 2:00 am Sunday, following complaints that a woman was knocking on doors holding an infant. According to the report, deputies arrived and discovered an Asian woman covered in urine, holding a baby and crying.

Deputies asked the woman what happened and she told officers that the couple and their infant son recently moved to the area from Raleigh, N.C. The couple took the baby to a house party and she began singing karaoke, sparking the interest of several men. The father of her infant son, 46-year-old Hai Tan Nguyen didn’t like all of the attention she was getting.

The woman also claims that Nguyen told her that her singing was too loud and it was hurting the baby’s ears. She then told deputies that when they got home, the couple began to argue more and Nguyen started throwing oranges at her while she was holding the baby.

According to the report, she claims that Nguyen took the baby out of her arms and set him on the couch while he proceeded to punch and hit her in the face and neck, causing her to urinate on herself out of fear.

Deputies noticed holes in the walls along with splattered oranges all over the room.

Based on all of the evidence presented, deputies arrested Nguyen and charged him with Battery. He was taken to the Collier County Jail.

According to Nguyen’s arrest report, his occupation is listed as a Nail Technician.
