Johnny Depp has signed up once again to play his role as Captain Jack Sparrow or at least rumor has it. Nothing new in a “Pirates of the Caribbean 5,” as Depp stated in October 2011 he was up for another Pirates film, should the chance arise. There is one surprising element to the new film. He’s signing a contract for $116 million to play the rum-racked Jack Sparrow. Excuse me – Captain Jack Sparrow.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise walked away with a cool $1.6 billion worldwide. So why wouldn’t another film be considered?
Johnny Depp is watching his P’s and Q’s, however. An inside source tells The Sun that he is on the lookout for over exposure in the film industry. He doesn’t want to overdo his career like he feels John Travolta and Nicholas Cage have. With the new Pirates release, he can choose his roles for other films with care, focusing on the power of the story rather than the money they will make for the mega-star. Depp tells Vanity Fair:
Basically, if they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it. I have to. I mean it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids. It’s ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It’s for the kids.
Since his breakup with French singer and actress, Vanessa Paradis, Depp has his mind focused on supporting his two children rather than watching out for his own needs. Lily-Rose and John “Jack” Christopher will have a secure future with earnings like this from their father.
The script for “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” is already in the works. Until the time he is needed for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp is working on the set of the new Disney remake of “The Lone Ranger” which will appear in theaters in July 2013.
UPDATE: Word is out that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" 5 & 6 will be filmed back to back. If this is the case, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" may make it into theaters in 2015. There is a possibility that "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" could be on the marquee in 2015-2016 should they be filmed one after the other.
