The following article is part of an ongoing effort to help homeless dogs in and around the Toronto/Hamilton area find suitable and loving homes. Currently, the need is great but the homes are few. Your help is desperately needed.
Southern Ontario Sheltie Rescue based in Toronto, Ontario would like to let everyone know about three healthy and happy Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie puppies – Snow, Crystal and Frost.
According to rescue staff, “This litter was born in the emergency shelter three weeks after the huge puppy mill seizure in late September. Now that the court case is over, the dogs are available for adoption.”
Snow, Crystal and Frost are double merle puppies who have hearing/eye impairments thanks to unethical and uneducated puppy mill handlers. However, like any other dogs, they need and deserve to find loving homes. They would be excellent companions for families with lots of love to share.
Snow, as her name suggests, is pure white. She is 4 months old and loves to play and cuddle. This little girl is totally deaf and has limited vision in both eyes. She cannot be let off leash in any unfenced area and will require a special family that can teach her hand signals.
Crystal is a 4-month-old strong willed female that likes to roughhouse with the best of them. She loves human companionship but prefers to play rather than cuddle. Interestingly, she likes to chew on people’s ears! This girl has vision in one eye and can hear in one ear. She should also never go off leash.
Frost is a lively 4-month-old with plenty of energy. He also prefers to play rather than cuddle. He has vision in one eye and partial vision in the other. As well, he can hear in one ear but not the other. Again, he should never be off leash.
All of these puppies require a fenced yard where they can play safely. They have all been socialized and exposed to various sights, sounds, flooring, stairs and puppy agility equipment. None of these pups has displayed any problem with being touched or handled.

Southern Ontario Sheltie Rescue is a non-profit group of volunteers in southern Ontario who take in homeless shelties and find them new homes. The dogs come into care from shelters, veterinarian’s clinics, other rescue organizations or from people who can longer keep their pets. Some of them have been abused or lived in inhumane situations, so they require special care. All of the dogs receive vet care, are neutered/spayed, immunized and given heartworm medication. They are generally in care for one to two weeks before they are available for adoption. Potential adopters are screened and matched with a family that is most suitable.
