Electronic rockers Depeche Mode have finally decided to grace their many fans with a new album announced just last week. It took almost four years since the release of "Sounds of the Universe" in 2009 and they have been sorely missed. Los Angeles always holds special affection for the band as they were a part of the sound of the 1980s post-punk alternative scene long before they filled the Rose Bowl.
A preview of the track listing reveals that it will cover much of the same subject matter which has obsessed the band through the years. The songs will be about sin, absolution, and deeply personal feelings. Listening to the lead single, "Heaven," it is deeply personal, highly atmospheric and reminiscent of previous albums. The sound might be somewhere between "Exciter" and "Songs of Faith And Devotion."
The track listing for "Delta Machine."
- "Welcome To My World"
- "Angel"
- "Heaven"
- "Secret To The End"
- "My Little Universe"
- "Slow"
- "Broken"
- "The Child Inside"
- "Soft Touch/Raw Nerve"
- "Should Be Higher"
- "Alone"
- "Soothe My Soul"
- "Goodbye"
Of course, the final track being called "Goodbye" causes a little bit of a shudder considering that Depeche Mode have been going for 33 years. Now that the band are in their 50s, perhaps they are finally thinking of retirement.
