President Obama "is putting millions of dollars into funding armed police officers in schools across the country," according to Evan Perez and Bryan Koenig of CNN today.
The move is quite surprising in light of Obama's continued efforts to impose gun control measures on an unwilling populace. After the horrific Sandy Hook shooting, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association Wayne LaPierre was condemned for calling for armed guards at schools in lieu of implementing strict gun control measures, as reported by Ian Simpson of the Chicago Tribune, who wrote,
"LaPierre's call in the days after the Newtown massacre for armed guards in all American schools was heavily criticized by gun control supporters."
According to the authors, "$45 million in funding intended to create 356 new school resource officer positions under the federal COPS grants."
“Funding from this year’s program will allow many cities and counties to apply new sworn personnel to issues related to violent crime, property crime, and school safety.”
Does President Obama agree that "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun?"
