Based on a TV series that ran on CBS from 1985 to 1989, “The Equalizer” is now coming to theaters on Friday, April 11, 2014.
Director Rupert Wyatt has stepped down from the helm of this new release because of scheduling conflicts. Because of the leave of the director, the film will have a gap in the production. There is also the need for a full cast, which has not yet been filled. Sony will have to move fast to keep “The Equalizer” on track for its April 2014 release.
Denzel Washington is set to play the role of Robert McCall, an ex-CIA operative who seeks redemption for his worst exploits. He quits the agency and places an advertisement in the local newspaper that read, “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”
During the original show, “The Equalizer” told the tale of an ex-CIA agent who quit to work as a private detective in his own agency. Agent Robert McCall (Edward Woodward) was out to help people with their predicaments in each episode. How the film may tell the story is still unknown.
Denzel is the only cast member as of this time. He will take on the lead role as Robert McCall. Now it’s up to Sony to grab a director and fill the rest of the marquee with people who will make the film believable.
