The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards were announced this morning by actress Emma Stone and comedian Seth MacFarlane. As the stars are accepting their nominations, statements are being released. On Thursday, January 10, Denzel Washington released a statement to the press on his Best Actor nomination for the drama “Flight.”

“’Flight’ was one of the most challenging roles I’ve ever had in my career, and it was an honor to be directed by Robert Zemeckis,” Washington says. “It’s always nice to be asked back to the show, and it will be fun to share the evening with our nominated screenwriter John Gatins.”

Also up for Best Actor are Daniel Day-Lewis for “Lincoln,” Hugh Jackman for “Les Miserables,” Bradley Cooper for “Silver Linings Playbook,” and Joaquin Phoenix for “The Master.”

Washington’s “Flight” is nominated for Original Screenplay along with “Amour,” “Django Unchained,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

The Academy Awards ceremony will air live on Sunday, February 24. For the full list of nominees in all categories, visit the Academy Awards online.
