Ruth Vallejo of Rockaway claimed ownership on Thursday of two dogs abandoned at Happy Hound Dog Park in Denville, N.J. According to NJ.com, Morris County CrimeStoppers announced Vallejo now faces animal cruelty and abandonment charges.
The adorable Shihpoo mixes were found roaming the Denville Park on Zeek Road earlier this week; neither dog, a male and a female wore any identifying collars.
Denville Police notified the Morris County CrimeStoppers who offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person who abandoned the dogs.
Vallejo told authorities the dogs ran away on Sunday chasing deer, but CrimeStoppers, in a press statement, contend her version is inconsistent with the investigation.
Both dogs are currently doing well at the Denville Animal Shelter.
