I have the extreme privilege of working with the best photographers in the Denver area. Kim Nodurft is one of them. Her images are described as simple, sharp and sexy. I agree. She also happens to be one of those people you want to hang out with all day. That makes for a perfect wedding photographer! Here's some Q&A with the fabulous Kim.
What advice do you have for someone starting to look for a photographer?
The main two things you want to look for are images that move you and someone you really like and trust. They will be with you all day. You want to enjoy their company. This is so important. And they should have a business license with a gorgeous website. I would never have a friend or relative who wasn't a pro shoot my wedding. I've heard horror stories of upset couples and ruined friendships. After the wedding, the images are the one thing you will have for the rest of your life.
How do brides fish through these "photographers" that seem to have great photos in their portfolio?
Don't just check out their website. Sit down with them and view their sample albums too. Is the album gorgeous? Check out the quality. There's a huge difference in album companies. I design mine myself since by this time I know the couple very well. Don't sign under pressure. You don't want to be railroaded into the wrong choice. One other factor to consider, what is their training?
Being a Makeup Artist, I obviously see the difference in photos when someone hires a professional MUA for their wedding. Do you?
Oh, I can't tell you what a huge difference it makes! The texture of the makeup, SPF, longevity etc. makes a huge difference especially in the images. What looks good in person won't necessarily photograph well. I recommend a makeup artist for engagement, bridals and trash the dress sittings too. Makeup artists not only make you look better immediately, they use brands that last the whole evening.
