Denver Water: Your local, web-savvy, clever water provider

It’s easy to forget that Denver is more or less situated in a high-altitude desert. The very arid climate makes for more reasonable heat in the summer, fewer nasty snowstorms in the winter, but can also leave us with a surprising lack of water when we might need it most. When it comes to advising customers and the public on safe and resonsible water useage, Dever Water has it covered with an impressive web presence and clever advertising campaign.

If you live in Denver, then it is more likely than not you have seen one of Denver Water’s “Use only what you need” or "Grass is dumb" advertisements around town. These ideas are only staples within the conservation program designed to get the most out of the water which is distributed around Denver. The conservation pages also advise against watering plants and gardens between the hours of 10 A.M. and 6 P.M. in the summer - the hottest parts of the day.

On their website, DenverWater.org, the city program outlines several ways in which customers can more effectively use the water which comes from their tap. Everything from installing low-flow devices to amending your soils and lawns with the proper nutrients to allow your landscaping to hold onto precious water, longer.

There is also an educational infographic that lets users follow the path of water in Denver from the source to the tap, as well as what happens to the sewage and runoff.

I find it best to keep an eye on the website, as they frequently run promotions which can result in freebie giveaways like yard signs and even T-shirts!

What are you doing to conserve water?
