On Thursday night, a few hundred lucky Denver fans of HBO’s medieval drama Game of Thrones were treated to a special early premiere of the much anticipated fourth season a little over a week before it airs. The show based on author George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of books has become one of TV’s hottest hit shows earning several Emmy awards as well as a very loyal and die-hard group of fans. The series focuses on a War of the Roses-esque civil war within the fictional continent of Westros as powerful families and factions vie for the Iron Throne. The episode entitled “Two Swords” screened at the Paramount Theater and will officially air on HBO next Sunday. The highly anticipated episode comes 9 months after last season’s infamous “Red Wedding” scene aired shocking many fans.
For Thursday’s special premiere, fans were able to take photos sitting in the show’s famed Iron Throne while an organist dressed as Merlin performed some of the show’s music. In addition, fans with a special VIP voucher were able to try an additional special “early release” of their own with Brewery Ommegang’s Game of Thrones themed beer “Fire and Blood”; a red ale inspired by House Targaryen’s motto within the show. The beer itself is the brewery’s 3rd Game of Thrones themed beer and will release commercially on March 31st. Finally, before the episode screened, a special costume contest was hosted by Fox 31’s “Everyday” co-host Chris Parente. Parente judged the contest based on the crowd’s reactions to fellow fans dressed as beloved (or hated) characters Jon Snow, Yara Greyjoy, Brienne of Tarth, Cersei Lannister or Stannis Baratheon.
The fourth season to Game of Thrones will air Sunday, April 6 on HBO. For those wanting to catch up on the show, prior seasons are currently available on DVD/Blu Ray or via HBO’s HBOGo app.
