Denver’s weekend rebounds to warm temps, snow ahead for next week

The Mile High City is experiencing a bit of a weather rollercoaster. From mild temps early this week to cold and snow followed by a warm Friday and weekend ahead then a return to cold and snow.

Officially Denver recorded 2.7 inches of snowfall from yesterday’s storm bringing the seasonal total to 16.0 inches. That is more than 10 inches below the average of 27.8 inches we normally see by the end of January. The one saving grace is that the central and northern mountain snowpack remains above normal.

For Friday temperatures are going to bounce right back to above normal following yesterday’s chill.

How high the mercury climbs today is a bit of a wildcard due to the snow cover however downslope winds should help overcome that. Look for high temperatures in town in the low 50s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will be breezy with gusts to 20 mph in the city, to 35 mph in the foothills.

Saturday will be the warmest day of the weekend. High temperatures should reach the mid to upper 50s with sunny skies above.

It gets a bit cooler Sunday but will remain a good ways above the normal for the date of 44 degrees. The weekend closes out with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the low to mid-50s and some breezy winds.

Sunday night the next storm system arrives in northeastern Colorado. This far out the forecasted timing, track and impact have some uncertainty in them. However right now widespread snowfall looks likely. Perhaps most notably will be cold temperatures Monday and Tuesday and highs that will be below freezing.
