Denver turns colder on Tuesday with a chance for snow

See also

Yesterday featured pleasant, spring-like temperatures followed by an afternoon cold front that plunged temperatures. Today the cold remains, reinforced by a second front, and delivers a decent chance for accumulating snow.

Overcast skies will be with us throughout the day in the Mile High City. Winds will initially be calm but then increase in strength in the early afternoon. Gusts to 30 mph will be possible by mid-afternoon.

Temperatures today will top out in the upper 30s, near 40 degrees in town. Similar readings will be seen in the high country while on the eastern plains it will be colder with many locations staying in the 20s.

For snow, this event, much like those seen in the last couple of weeks, will focus most of its energy north and northeast of Denver.

In town some flurries will be possible after mid-morning with snow increasing by mid-afternoon and lasting into tonight. Total accumulations in Denver are expected to be light with varying accumulations from a trace to two inches. Some isolated, higher amounts will be possible with much depending on just how far south the front pushes.

To our northeast the plains will see higher accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Foothills areas to the north will be looking at 3 to 6 inches.

Looking ahead the forecast holds periods of warmer weather but also chances for snow at different times.

Wednesday will see a return of the sun and high temperatures around 50 degrees. Thursday will warm to the low 50s but then Thursday night another system brings a slight chance for rain and snow. Friday temperatures again will be near 50.

The weekend looks to offer a turn toward colder temperatures with highs in the 30s Saturday and Sunday. Saturday brings another chance for snow.
