The first time we saw Sebastian Stone he was swallowing a four-foot-long, thick, pink balloon. The sight made us gag, giggle, and gasp in amazement. We couldn't wait to find out the secrets of this tall, mysterious performing artist. Here's what he had to say.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
I am Sabastian Stone I am a balloon swallower, fire eater/ breather, Street Entertainer and magician. I’m a regular performer at Lannies Clockower Cabaret showcasing the fan-favorite the four-foot-balloon swallow as well as performing up close and stage magic for the visitors of the club. I also do street performing in Boulder, Fort Collins and Denver.
2. How did you get involved in performing, magic, and sword swallowing?
I perform as a duo act "The Mr. E Brothers" most times on stage with my performing partner Lynx the Animator. I saw him street perform and it changed my life forever he's the one who got me into street performing, first as a magician and then later he taught me how to sword swallow as well as balloon swallow. Now my act has taken on a life of its own and I’m doing things I never thought I would ever do in my life. I wouldn’t change that for anything.
3. What is the ultimate secret to sword swallowing, and how did you learn to do it?
A magician never tells and a sword swallower doesn’t talk. But not having a sensitive gag reflex helps a lot.
4. What inspired your stage persona (and where did the name come from)?
Sabastian is the Dare Devil in me; it has inspired to push the envelope. Sebastian gives me the ability to integrate more dangerous stunts into my performances. Creating this character Sabastian was one of the best things I’ve done for my shows. Performing though Sabastian has allowed me to come to know and understand more things about myself as a performer as well as a person than ever before.
As for the name Sabastian Stone I’ve always thought Sabastian was a dynamic name and is not an everyday name. I also didn’t what to spell it just like any other Sebastian so I changed the spelling. I chose the last name because I wanted a name where the last name’s letter started with the same letter as the first name I think it sounds better.
5. What (or who) inspires you to do this work?
All the amazing performers at the Clocktower. I’m always learning something new from all of them. Also, the people who come and watch me perform, whether it’s on the streets or the stage, are always inspiring me to be the best I can be. My family has always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. And without the aid of my best friend who inspired me to pursue this life I wouldn’t be where I am today.
6. What is your most thrilling magic trick?
I don’t think I could pick just one. My audience seems to get a kick out of my rubber band tricks. No one ever knows what I’m going to do with rubber bands and then there left speechless after I’m done.
7. What's your favorite decadent treat?
Watching a movie while eating coffee ice cream and dark chocolate
9. What has been your biggest challenge in your endeavors?
The biggest challenge is to make this into my job and be able to perform full time. Also because I perform dangerous things like fire eating and balloon swallowing I'm not allowed to perform in a lot of places. So most of the time my outlet is going out and street performing which was my first love and were I started.
10. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I would like to be traveling the US performing and busking full-time and doing a lot more dangerous and exciting shows.
