Denver's Purple Ginger 2 Asian fusion restaurant is celebrating the 2013 Year of the Snake this Saturday while giving back to the community. People born in the Year of the Snake are known for generosity and sharing, so Purple Ginger 2 will donate a portion of the funds to a children's cancer non-profit. Festivities includes a night of lion dancing, martial arts, and nine courses of Asian Fusion and traditional Chinese cuisine (see the slideshow for celebrations around the globe).
Chinese New Year falls in the new moon of Aquarius, the humanitarian of the zodiac, and the staff at Purple Ginger take this to heart. Not only will this event provide cultural exposure to the community, it will also benefit Dani’s Foundation, a non-profit aimed at funding research and support for pediatric sarcoma.
The menu ($25/person) created for this Chinese New Year celebration includes Westlake soup with crabmeat, Yang Chou fried rice, snow honey shrimp with sweet cashews, Phoenix chicken, Buddha’s Delight, braised Shanghai pork shank, sichuan crispy Dover sole, and rainbow sticky rice Cake with fresh fruit. Dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. Feb. 16th.
A portion of the funds raised during the evening will support the Dani’s Foundation Patient Assistance Grant Fund which is available to support pediatric sarcoma patients during their cancer diagnosis and treatment. “Dani’s Foundation is most appreciative of any opportunity to support our special fund,” explains Executive Director Martha Simmons. “Due to the current economic state, many are suffering but our pediatric cancer community seems to be hit the hardest. This program offers a bit of financial respite to those patients and families who are finding it hard to battle their disease and make ends meet.”
In addition to the Chinese New Year celebration, Purple Ginger 2 has weekly specials that are worth checking out. Bring five people from your office in for a weekday lunch and get 10% off the check. The last Friday of the month is dim sum, tea and dessert for $10. And, to get you through the week, Wednesdays are half off bottles of wine.
