April 20th is “420: International Weed Day,” and Denver’s 420 Rally is said to be the biggest in the world. This year marks its 28th anniversary and it is also its first pot rally since the legalization of retail marijuana. It is expected to attract thousands (over 10,000 according to some sources), primarily due to the fact that visitors can now legally purchase pot while here.
Held at Civic Center Park, the Rally is a 2 day event kicking off Saturday morning on the 19th and continuing through the 20th. This is a “Cannabis Culture Music Festival,” and they have a full line up with musicians such as The Expendables, B.O.B., Zion I and more. Click here for a full line up. According to iBAKE Denver, the event will also include speakers and activists of pot legalization and more.
In addition to the Rally itself, tourism related to the legal retail marijuana industry is adding to the experience. Bus tours to dispensaries and growing facilities are selling out and events such as Denver’s 4th Annual Cannabis Cup have sold out. “Post rally parties” are advertised as well.
Despite the legalization of purchase, it is still illegal for anyone to smoke weed publicly, so police will be onsite for crowd control purposes as well as a reminder to save it for home.
