Kicking off the summer music festival season in Denver, the Denver Day of Rock will take over the Sixteenth Street Mall area in downtown Denver this Saturday, May 24.
In a first for the annual free music festival (which benefits Concerts for Kids), the event will feature an early kickoff concert this evening, Friday, May 23 at Skyline Park. Local rock band The Congress kicks things off at 6:30 p.m., followed by The Wallflowers at 8:00 p.m.
Tomorrow’s festivities will include a slew of touring acts and local bands on multiple stages up and down the mall area. Headliners this year (besides The Wallflowers tonight) include Plain White T’s, The Hold Steady, Black Joe Lewis and Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers; the lineup also includes Denver staples like Wendy Woo, John Common & Blinding Flashes of Light, Post Paradise, Rachel & the Kings, Katey Laurel and The Railbenders. A full lineup and schedule is available on the Denver Day of Rock website.
The stages become active tomorrow starting at 2:30 p.m., and the music continues well into the evening. Best of all—it’s free! Come on out, support Concerts for Kids, and enjoy the Denver music scene.
