WBC Silver minimumweight champ Denver "The Excitement" Cuello is set to return in the ring on March 10 when he faces off against Indonesian challenger Kid "El Chivato" Suryana at the Jaro Plaza in Ilo-ilo City.
The non-title fight will serve as a tune-up for Cuello's title eliminator match-up against Ganingan "El Zurdo" Lopez of Mexico in May. According to Cuello's manager Aljoe Jaro, he is working closely with his partner Canelo Promotions, and hopes to bring the expolsive match-up in Manila.
"There's big chance that the fight will happen here. I'm talking to TV networks and Canelo Promotions so we can give our Filipino fans another great fight in our own backyard," Jaro told this scribe.
The winner of that title eliminator will earn the right to face Japan's Kazuto Ioka for the full WBC minimumweight title sometime in July or August.
Cuello has been chasing and calling our Ioka for a while now, something Jaro is hoping would come to an end after his ward faces Lopez. "If we beat Lopez, Ioka will have nowhere to run as the fight will be mandatory. If he still has second thoughts about facing Denver, I think he needs to come up with a plan fast so he can vacate his title, because Denver will stop at nothing to get it," said the energetic Rizal-based boxig manager and promoter.
