Broncos' GM Brian Xanders—the least known member of EFX, or Elway Fox Xanders—spoke on ESPN's 102.3 FM Friday and talked all about the team.
One of his most striking quotes revolved around none other than the heinously hyped Tim Tebow.
When asked if the Broncos would build their team around Tebow, Xanders answered “Absolutely.”
What it means is Denver has committed to Tebow as their starting quarterback, at least in the short term.
They'll draft players that compliment Tebow's style—likely a speedy running back that can carry some of the load and run the read-option with him—as they try to give the second-year quarterback his best chance of success at the NFL level.
It also means the Broncos will likely look to bring in quarterbacks that are similar to Tebow in their playing style.
Xanders commented that Denver will go through the draft and free agency to add two more signal-callers to the Broncos, keeping the pressure on Tebow to continue to grow as a professional passer.
David Garrard, a 10-year veteran formerly with the Jacksonville Jaguars, could be the veteran Denver's looking for. Garrard is a dual-threat guy, able to throw or run, and since he was out of the league in 2011, he could possibly be acquired on the cheap.
Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III would be an awesome addition as a backup to Tebow, a guy whose raw athleticism could seriously challenge the Broncos' QB, but some say he could go as high as No. 2 overall. Denver can't use another first round pick on a quarterback, especially if they're going to build their team around the guy they took at No. 25 in 2009, though they can probably get a stud later in the draft as well.
Arizona QB Nick Foles said he grew up a Broncos fan and it would be an honor to be the team's quarterback of the future.
Mocking the Draft believes Denver may go with Kirk Cousins of Michigan State or Brock Osweiler from Arizona State.
Overall, there are many quarterbacks in this year's draft including Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill, Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden, Wisconsin's Russell Wilson and more.
At the end of the day, the Broncos adapted their offense to Tebow last season, setting him up for maximum success and the young QB did well.
Now they'll build the offense around him personnel-wise, though Elway said it would be up to Tebow to keep it.
