The Denver Broncos thoroughly outplayed the Oakland Raiders on Monday night. Football is not supposed to be this easy, but this version of Peyton Manning is looking better than he’s ever been. If the Broncos aren’t hitting their stride yet, then it’s time to feel bad for the rest of the league. Manning finished 32/37 passing for 374 yards passing and three touchdowns, in the 37-21 win. The Broncos reshuffle the offensive line. No problem. They just keep on rolling. The Oakland Raiders got to Peyton Manning once tonight, and it actually caused a turnover. Otherwise it was a virtually flawless performance by the AFC West leaders. There was a feeling by Top 10+1 Sports blog that Peyton could have another great game in spite of Oakland's lofty defensive rankings.
Out of Peyton Manning’s three touchdown passes, three different receivers were rewarded with six points. Eric Decker started the scoring in the first quarter with a two yard reception. After a Matt Prater field goal to put the score 10-0 in favor of the Broncos, Manning hit Wes Welker with a beautiful post-corner route that shook Charles Woodson out of his shoes.
Then soon after Oakland’s first touchdown, Denver responded with a Julius Thomas touchdown reception. Before you knew it, Denver was up 27-7 at halftime.
Even with the lopsided score, Oakland showed some promising moments. Yet, none of these moments came in the running game. Terrell Pryor finished 19/28 passing for 281 yards with one touchdown. His poise in the pocket is definitely something the Raiders can build on down the line.
Oakland came into the game as a top five defensive unit, and they had no answers all game. They gave up 164 yards on the ground, while looking for a scheme to slow down Manning’s passing attack.
Similarly, the ball controlled offense never got going with Darren McFadden. He only produced nine yards on 12 carries.
Denver vaults to (3-0) with a share of the AFC West division.
Oakland falls to (1-2) in the AFC West.
Terrell Pryor was taken to the locker room in the final minutes due to potential injury.
