Denver Botanic Gardens will sparkle with Chihuly glass art this summer and fall

Fans of glass artist Dale Chihuly will not want to miss a fabulous exhibit of his sculptures scheduled for June 14 through November 30, 2014 at Denver Botanic Gardens at 1007 York Street.

This will be the first outdoor show of Chihuly's work in the Rocky Mountain region.

Chihuly is a world-renowned artist, with his work appearing in more than 200 museums throughout the globe, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass, as well as the lobby of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in downtown Denver. He has received numerous awards, including 12 honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1968, he went to Venice to work at the Venini glass factory where he learned the team approach to blowing glass, which is how he works today.

This show was curated specifically for the Denver Botanic Gardens. The vibrant colors of Chihuly's glass pieces will play dramatically with sunlight, moonlight and liquid reflections in water features throughout the 224-acre gardens. Installations will range from small water floats to large vertical structures. Chihuly's design team visited the gardens in order to tailor each piece to the urban oasis landscape. Viewing will be after dark as well as during the day.

"Each work will come to life at our location," said Jennifer Riley-Chetwynd, DBG Director of Marketing and PR. "It's a great way to showcase the gardens to our existing and new audiences."
