The Squeaky Bean has been around for a little less than a year but it has already made a big impression on the Mile High City. Nominated by 5280 as a top 25 restaurant in Denver and located in the Highlands at 3301 Tejon Street, The Squeaky Bean is a great place to come and enjoy both the neighborhood and the Mediterranean inspired cuisine.
What makes the Squeaky Bean unique is the fact that local produce is grown in a garden right around the corner from the restaurant, so the menu changes frequently based on what is in season. Food to nosh on includes snacks (try the Potato & Gruyere Fonduta with Grilled Bread), small plates ranging from $8 to $12, salads, as well as some amazing sandwich choices (try the moist and tender Tuna Conserva). They have a great wine list with bottles ranging from $28-$42.
The Squeaky Bean has a great Happy Hour menu. Happy hour is Tuesday-Saturday from 3:30-6:30. Their all day, every day special is $2 Coors Banquet cans. Other drink specials during this time include $3 draft beers, $5 house wines, $3 well cocktails, $6 specialty cocktails and $6.50 specialty martinis. Their specialty cocktails and martinis are absolutely delicious. The chocolate lover should try the Squeaky Fromme which mixes Van Gogh Double Expresso and Dutch chocolate vodkas, as well as cream topped with nutmeg. As for the martinis, I suggest trying the Cerenity Now, a delicious martini served with to-die-for blue cheese stuffed olives.
Brunch is served on weekends from 9:30 until 2:30PM. The overnight French toast is the crowd pleaser; just try to resist the custard soaked in cinnamon and syrup. To wash it down, and to cure that Friday night hangover, try either the Tingleberry (Prosecco, Fragoli Sicilian Strawberry Liqueur with fresh blueberries) or the ever classic Beanie Bloody (Cucumber vodka with bloody mix and a salty rim).
The Squeaky Bean is small in size but it packs power. They have a great outdoor patio, cute décor, as well as a service staff that is very knowledgeable. Make sure to get to there early as it will fill up fast! For more information: check out their website, The Squeaky Bean.
