Denver Bars and Restaurants: Root Down

I am a huge fan of a place that mixes innovative cuisine with a killer happy hour to offer a one of a kind atmosphere. Root Down, located at 1600 W. 33rd Ave. in the Highlands is the perfect location for birthday parties, date night, girls’ night out or just a place to grab a drink and take in the delicious food and libations.

As you walk up to Root Down you will notice that it is not your typical bar or restaurant. One word that sums this place up best is: Eclectic. The owners transformed it from an old school service station to an earthy eatery that is heavily built with recycled material. The décor is comprised of large black and white photos of the past, as well as a full wall of colorful rotary phones. Big booths cover the back wall of the bar area, making for a lounge-like, comfortable vibe. Root Down has a great patio that overlooks the beautiful city skyline.

Happy hour is not to be missed! It runs from 430PM-7PM Monday-Friday, and Saturday and Sundays from 3-5PM (Drinks only on weekends). Drinks included in the Happy hour menu include the Rosemary-Lavender Lemonade, which looks like Christmas in a glass, as well as the Mai Tai, Margarita and Classic Mojito. House wine and draft specials are also included, all of the prices ranging from $3-$5. The happy hour food menu is just as mouth watering as the beverages. Duck Confit and Veggie Burger Sliders are the top crowd pleasers. Others food items include appetizer portions of Mussels and Sweet Potato Falafels.

Happy hour only scratches the surface as to what Root Down offers the Highlands community. Their full lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch menus are highly impressive as well. With their 45 options for wine, there is no excuse to not stop in and check it out at least once.

Root Down has a private dining room that can be booked for special parties and events.
