Dense fog advisory extended across the Capital Region (Video)

The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory that remains in effect until 12 noon for the Capital Region and vicinity.

The combination of relatively warmer and moist air overriding cooler, and in some cases still snow covered, ground has lead to the formation of dense fog across portions of the region. With little if any surface wind to help mix the air, fog is forecast to persist through the morning hours. Below are some of observed visibility readings, in statute miles, for locations around the Capital Region and vicinity as of the 9 AM EST hour on Sunday morning...

  • Albany, NY: 3/4 mile
  • Poughkeepsie, NY: 1/4 mile
  • Glens Falls, NY: 1/4 mile
  • White Plains, NY: Less than 1/4 mile
  • JFK Airport, NYC: 1/4 mile
  • Newburgh, NY: 1/4 mile

Those with travel plans this morning should allow plenty of extra time to reach their destinations. Remember to use low beam lights when encountering dense fog, and to reduce speed accordingly. The fog should begin to slowly lift through the course of the afternoon.
