The Parental Boot Camp event takes place this week and Dennis Teagues wants to get the word out. This event is to benefit local families and the community so if that is a priority to you then you may want to attend. The following was provided by Dennis Teague;

Parental Bootcamp is an annual 3 day event held each August. Now in it's 5th year, the event draws parents, educators, and community activist together discussing and solving the issues facing our students, primarily in the inner-city, who are often overlooked for special state and national programs that would prepare and launch student's academic careers. This year's keynote speakers will be:

Thursday, August 9 @ 7pm

* White House Rep, Dr. Kota, Former Assistant Director or Advanced Manufacturing at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (DSTP)

Friday, August 10 @ 7pm

* Michigan State University, Dr. William Schmidt, Professor and Co-Director of the Education Policy Center

Saturday, Aug 11 12noon - 5pm

Back to School Rally: S.T.E.M. Initiative Several Robotic Teams and S.T.E.M. related activities will be in attendance giving our youth hands-on experience with operating robots and other technologies. The objective is to expose kids in the inner city community to high-tech technologies. It is our hope many will choose Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math as a career paths in their academic endeavors.

The theme is "Education is the Passport to the Future" Introduction to S.T.E.M. & the Future of Education in the U.S. Both speakers will address education and the new curriculum in the nation and in the state of Michigan.

The "Back to School" event, held Saturday, August 11th is the culminating family day. We are inviting kids from all over the city of Detroit!!! This outdoor community event aims to bring national organizations together and expose students of the local community to high tech learning experiences and have fun doing it! This year's theme is S.T.E.M and we have several organizations participating including the US ARMY TARDEC, FIRST ROBOTICS, MICHIGAN TECH UNIVERSITYand DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS to name a few. There will be several students from schools and robotic teams represented. We will give away school supplies, food, and store vouchers preparing every student's age group for the academic year.
