Dennis Rodman had been out of the news for years. But all of a sudden he seems to be all over the place. US Today (March 12, 2013) reports that Rodman told KXJB radio station in Fargo, N.D. that he’s planning to return to North Korea in August and visit Kim Jong-un who he's calling a “friend for life,” a “good guy” and a “great leader.”
Now today this stranger than strange story.
It seems that sandwiched in between his two "diplomatic" visits to North Korea, Rodman is, almost unbelievably, making a whirl wind visit to St Peter's Square to campaign for the first black Pope.
True, it is a moment of crisis for the Catholic church, but still it hasn't all been somber. A group of women who say they are priests launched pink smoke from a balcony overlooking the square during a Mass to demand female ordination. Then there was a group of women activists, several of whom were topless in St. Peter's, protesting the Vatican's opposition to gay marriage. But in the most bizarre stunt of all, Dennis Rodman, is expected to arrive in St. Peter's Square on Wednesday March 13, 2013 riding in a "makeshift popemobile" as he campaigns for Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana to become the church's first black pope.
Of course none of the cardinals will see or hear about this bizarre happening as they will be sequestered inside the Vatican walls and allowed no telephones, no newspapers, no television, no tweeting and no contact with the outside world until after they have elected a pope.
