Dennis Fritz will appear at Olathe book signing January 24, 2010

Journey Toward Justice

The story of Dennis Fritz and Ron Williamson was introduced to readers by John Grisham in his first non-fiction book, The Innocent Man. This weekend, Kansas Citians will have a chance to meet Fritz in person. Fritz will appear at a signing for his own book, Journey Toward Justice, about his ordeal after being wrongfully convicted for rape and murder.

In 1982, when Fritz was living in Ada, Oklahoma, the town was by a brutal crime. The father of 21-year-old Debbie Carter found her body in the bedroom of her small apartment, a blood-soaked washcloth stuffed down her throat and the room demolished. Although a great deal of physical evidence was recovered from the scene, the police had few leads to a suspect, and the case went cold.

But in 1987, Fritz found out first-hand that the cold case had heated back up. By then living in Kansas City, he was shocked when a police SWAT team showed up at his aunt's home to arrest him in connection with the murder. Although he always maintained his innocence, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. He spent 11 years there before being exonerated with DNA evidence. Journey Toward Justice, a companion book to Grisham's The Innocent Man, allowed Fritz to tell his story in his own words.

Fritz will conduct a book signing on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at the Olathe Hy-Vee, 16100 W. 135th St. He will be there from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
