An East Cobb man, arrested last year for the shooting death of his roommate, was sentenced to life in prison this month, according to the Cobb District Attorney's Office.
Dennis Bredar, 66, was arrested in September of 2012 after authorities found his roommate, Rhonda Callihin, dead inside Bredar's home off of Jamerson Forest Circle. Bredar himself called the police and informed them that there was a dead woman inside the residence. He sat on a chair on the front porch of his home while authorities located Callihin, who was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.
Although Bredar initially denied shooting his roommate, he plead guilty last Tuesday in a Cobb County Courthouse. According to Bredar, he began arguing with Callihin over minor issues on the night of the shooting. Fed up, he grabbed a .357 revolver and shot her several times.
The pair had been neighbors for 25 years before Callihin went through a divorce. She decided to rent a room from Bredar while going through her divorce proceedings. Friends of the victim told authorities she complained of Bredar's constant alcohol consumption after moving in.
During his hearing, Bredar reached out to family members of the victim by stating he was sorry for any grief he caused. He then entered a plea of guilty in front of Cobb County Judge Reuben Green.
