Denis Matsuev offered a beautiful performance at the Sochi Olympics Closing Ceremony on Sunday. The pianist was seen by the world as he played beautifully. The fans heard Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concert No. 2 playing as the world watched pianos being moved around the floor of the Fisht Olympic Stadium. According to the Wall Street Journal on Sunday, the world was watching a very famous pianist perform.

Who is Denis Matsuev? He is a Russian award-winning classical pianist who has traveled the world to perform. He has appeared in hundreds of recitals in the most prestigious concert halls worldwide. And has performed with some of the world's best known symphony orchestras. The musician canceled several performances to make sure he could be part of the ceremony and the fans were glad to see him in Sochi.

Offering a look at Russian music, the world got to hear just how well Matsuev performs. Of course it’s not a replacement for going to a performance, but it definitely is a taste of his skill and dedication to the music. One of several famous Russian musicians, the pianist no doubt will achieve more notoriety thanks to his time on the Sochi Olympics stage.
