Denis Kudla in Australian Open debut pushes Germany’s Tommy Haas to 3 sets

Arlington, Virginia teen, Denis Kudla, 19, playing his first Australian Open Tennis pushes veteran Tommy Haas to three sets. Kudla is currently ranked 276 in the world in men’s singles tennis. Kudla, right handed, 5’11” and 165 lbs, trained at the Junior Champions Tennis Center in College Park, MD.

Kudla lost the first set in a tie break, but won the second set, 6-3. Haas won the third set at love, and the deciding set, 7-5.

Haas, 34, is a 16 year veteran of the ATP tour. He hits right handed and at 6’2” and 185 lbs, can still intimidate opponents. In 2002 he was ranked number 2 in the world. Slowly winding down his career, he is currently ranked at 190. He has won more than $10 million in career prize money.
