MODERN-ISM continues to hover like at some peripheral vision or maybe in some memory of REASONS for making LIFE a work of ART :: but the world since Reaganomics and the Yuppie generation has become utterly muddled and the separation between unbelievably rich and falling middle classes is weighing heavily upon us all. Mankind is utterly obsessed with controlling everything. Or should we say the rising businesses of media transmission have as their only GOAL to CONTROL everything and as the definition of their very necessity in "competing" for the LION's SHARES of the market place :: they have no alternative but to CONTROL the WORLD. How convenient for them...but as far as any outlook in CULTURE actually being CULTIVATED :: our current society is more manipulated in the control of who has control over the air waves than in manifesting anything resembling a meaningful ART (s) .. ( unless the delirious display of showbiz antics and appalling affair with vaudeville will actually be the FACE of 21st Century Culture !!!).
If anyone out there looks at Culture as anything resembling this perspective I will venture further to ask some questions concerning the future relationship between a FINE ART and the Culture of AMERICA ( the WEST, the societies that want FINE ART , for isn't it some imposition to just throw this Culture upon the global community and assume everyone wants to be like MIKE ? or AMERICA. How much will China and Japan adopt AMERICAN themes before they realize they aren't really interested but are really being manhandled by those MEDIA POWERS who are looking to CONTROL the world). What if mankind could shift to a 'higher' consciousness, to conceive of a higher state of man ( not the 1980s MOUNTAIN of cocaine flushing through a dumbed down culture not wanting to get hit by it's truck without breaks. Or the ensuing vacuum created when the drug of $$ choice is pulled back and everyone stands around and looks at how vapid everyone looks... without the RUSH of the illicit market) really looking to appreciate the ART of "BEING" and reveling in how wonderful living in a society of other like beings finding the value and substance of looking to FINE ART that exists for the appreciation of ..."BEING". For the CON of the shallow FINE ARTS since World War TWO has largely been because of it's continual evaporation and selling out to bolster Advertizing Campaigns and promote the organized criminality which has been the fetish of everything from Hollywood to rock-N-roll to the completely astoundingly successful Billion $$ industries of DRUGS and porn for the whole second half of the 20th Century. Is there any debate that this is the REALITY of AMERICAN CULTURE here in the beginning 21st Century ? Yet everything continues to pour itself into the MONEY-PIT fearing to lose out and not be in the groups which are bathing in the green.
The TERROR which CONTROLs the cultural facilities in this country seem increasingly spineless to interject VIRTUES - VALUES - SUBSTANCE - NEW MEANING and anything that smells of backbone into a society which loves Hucksters and Andy Warhola's glib phrase which has been elevated to a coined phrase " everyone in the future will be famous for fifteen minutes." The only cultural push in this hack period of shock and awe is this pushing of shallow instant gratification.
In the centuries following the, in hindsight, stunning age of the Renaissance Man and the enriching moment of a call to Higher Education for all and the excitement of an enriching chorus of HUMANISM there ensued a number of ( what was thought then, as they manifested) dubious movements : Mannerism, the baroque, and the Rococo. The first focused on the Human form. Artists painted the human body as often and in as many possible variations as their imaginations could envision. This was a period of liberating the human form. The baroque actually is a term that means "of lesser value" and there was a questioning of where the Artist will go, could go, and might take us as they explored the outer limits of the new visions after Copernicus, de Fontenelle, DIDEROT, Rousseau, or Voltaire. Then the rococo actually explored porn itself with artists such as Pater and Boucher until the Genius of the rising French Art World approached the Fine Arts as actually a VIRTUE and position of encoding values and substance for the public to look to. This was the effect of the leadership of the first ART CRITIC of the Salons of Paris...DENIS DIDEROT.
