It looks as if the next epic gangster film in development from Paramount Pictures will be The Irishman which is an adaptation of the Charles Brandt book, I Heard You Paint Houses. The movie is about the life of mob hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran who allegedly murdered union organizer Jimmy Hoffa. Sheeran has also been linked to more than 25 mob executions and has allegedly been rumored to have been involved with the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
The screenplay by Steve Zaillian (American Gangster), will feature Robert DeNiro as Sheeran. Martin Scorsese is directing the film which also stars Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and possibly Harvey Keitel.
DeNiro, Pesci and Scorsese have all worked together on the following films: Raging Bull in 1980, Goodfellas in 1990 and Casino in 1995. It is the first time Pacino will be working with Martin Scorsese. DeNiro and Pacino shared screen time in the films Heat and Righteous Kill.
Fans of Joe Pesci will be happy to see him back on the big screen. Pesci has only appeared in two films in the past decade; The Good Shepherd which was directed by DeNiro and the film Love Ranch.
The roles that Pacino and Pesci will be portraying in The Irishman are unknown at this time.
Only time will tell if this film will live up to it's expectations. With three of the gangster film genre's biggest actors and director, this film looks as if it will be another gangster film masterpiece.
