Dendy, Oliver leave ISU basketball team, Hoiberg announces

Iowa State basketball players come...and go.

New Cyclone head coach Fred Hoiberg has brought in a handful of players for his roster, now two of the holdovers are leaving, the university announced Tuesday.

Hoiberg said LaRon Dendy, a senior from Greenville, S.C., has been granted his release to transfer to another school.

The 6-9, 230-pound forward played in 24 games for the Cyclones 2009-10, averaging 7.3 points and 3.6 rebounds. It was Dendy's only year on the ISU team. He shot a hot 60 percent from the field (69-115 FG) and ranked 7th in the Big 12 in blocks at 1.3 per outing.

“LaRon and I met yesterday and he informed me of his intentions to transfer to another school,” Hoiberg said in an ISU news release. “He explained to me this was something he has been considering for quite some time. We will do everything we can to help LaRon in his future goals.”

Hoiberg also announced Antwon Oliver also will not be with the team next year. From Racine, Wis., Oliver redshirted last season in his only year with the Cyclones.
