Today, Nick Maragus has confirmed over on the Playstation Blog that Demon's Souls, the unsparingly difficult RPG published by Atlus and developed by From Software, will be hitting the Playstation Store on January 8th as thanks to all the loyal players that have kept the servers running since its initial release. The game will be priced at $19.99, and in celebration, there will be a Pure White Tendency event going on. This means two things: 1. The game's difficulty will be scaled down a bit, and 2. There will be areas open that can only be accessed due to Pure White World Tendency.
"What's the big deal about Demon's Souls?" you may be wondering. Initially created as a spiritual successor to King's Field, Demon's Souls thrusts you into the role of a lone man who managed to breach the fog surrounding Boleteria, a feat that few have successfully managed to accomplish. Things do not end well for you, however, as you must soon fight a powerful demon, and you may end up losing your life to it. If, however, you manage to defeat the demon, you will lose your life to the Dragon God instead. Once dead, you appear in a place called the Nexus, and are greeted by the Maiden in Black, who gives you a seemingly simple, if difficult task: Travel to each of the main lcoations in Boletaria and slay the demons that reside within each. By doing so you will gain power.
Demon's Souls was widely successful, even earning the 2009 Overall Game of the Year award from Gamespot. It had a sequel developed, Dark Souls, and continues to be popular even now. Will you brave the ruins of Boletaria, or will you abandon the quest appointed to you by the Maiden in Black? You can make the decision now via physical copy or wait until this coming Tuesday and decide digitally. If you decide to take the journey, then best of luck on your travels through Boletaria!
