Democrats remove 'God' from DNC platform, insert Obama's name over 100 times

While Barack Obama is mentioned by name over 100 times, God is no longer part of the Democratic Party platform, CBN reported Tuesday.

In 2008, the party platform read:

We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.

But that plank has been rewritten to remove the phrase "God-given."

"We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us,” the platform now reads.

David Brody wrote that the platform does have a plank on "faith," but that plank does not mention God. Instead, the plank speaks mostly of work done by faith-based organizations and says the party believes "in constitutionally sound, evidence-based partnerships with faith-based and other non-profit organizations to serve those in need and advance our shared interests."

David Brody said he has contacted the DNC to find out why God's name was removed from the platform.

"Some critics will suggest that when you have planks in your platform that support abortion rights and gay marriage then it's no wonder that God's name would be dropped as well," he wrote.

In an article at Breitbart.com, Mike Flynn said that Obama's name is the most mentioned term in the platform.

"The collective voice of millions of Democrats across the country have been reduced to 'whatever Obama says,'" he wrote.

"Out of the 40 pages that make up the platform, Obama is cited by name on 38 of them. He is cited over 200 times throughout the document. The Democrat party's platform is really Obama's campaign manifesto," Flynn added.

Delegates are set to vote on the platform on Tuesday.

Update: Language referencing God and Jerusalem was restored to the platform on Wednesday. Delegates booed after a voice vote was taken. More here.
