Democrats feeling the ObamaCare backlash from seniors

Older Americans are telling Democrats and Obama to keep hands off their health care.  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Leader Harry Reid may not be aware of it yet, but these folks who have been around long time can still call a sham when they see it.

But Democrats ain't seen nuthin" yet; its really going to hit the fan in August when they have to face angry elders at town meetings. For those elders who voted for Obama, buyers remorse has set in big time.

The AARP, that endorsed ObamaCare, is already feeling the heat from its members which is becoming more intense daily.

These folks don't want ObamaCare stuffed down their throats and Republicans are taking full advantage of their discontent.  They are making the term "liberal" sound like a dirty word, even though Democrats are substituting "Progressive" as polls show that the majority of Americans are actually more on the Conservative side, especially when it comes to the economy.

Althought Pelosi still looks as arrogant as every, some say that Harry Reid is showing the strain from watching Obama's poll numbers drop like a hot potato taken out of the oven without something to protect him from getting burned as he tries to change the United States economically and socially during his first six months in office.

The effort to create what is call "change blindness" which prohibits the public from seeing the sleight of hand that is going on in Washington, isn't working anymore.  While Pelosi whines that "the insurance companies are the villains", even they beat her approval rating of 30%.  The Democrats can't seem to figure out what hit them but they may learn when meeting with seniors when they are slapped in the face by folks who have taken the time to become "political watchdogs."  To the dismay of the Democrats, millions of Americans are listening to what Republicans are saying about Obama nationalizing health care or seeing the country become more like the socialism of France.

While Obama makes sure he speaks in front of carefully selected audiences, who hang onto his every work, and clap on cue, the rest of the public is obviously not fooled.  He may accuse the Republicans of "scaring" Americans" , but as his poll numbers drop, apparently the folks are not being scared, they are being alerted and catching on and don't like what they are learning.

Overall, just 48% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. That is the lowest level of total approval yet recorded for this President. Fifty-one percent (51%) now disapprove.

Perhaps the  time has come for Obama and the Democrats not to be so self-satisfied. They  forgot that there were millions of voters who did not vote for the President. Now there are others who are disenchanted, especially a growing number of older folks, who have the time to do the research and the voices to expose what they see happening in Washington and Obama's White House.

The Democrats ignore the white-haired folks to their own peril.  The Republicans are smart enough to get on the bandwagon as the loudspeaker blares:

Keep Your Hands Off My Health Care Program.

The question is how long much longer will it be before they are joined by those who were the true believers voted for Obama?

Way to go Martha!! The Democrats forget we Seniors have e-mail and we can spread their crap in an instant all over the country. The media won't print it so we do the work ourselves!

  • Tex 2 years ago

Martha: page 425 of the obamacare draft legislation has an interesting provision. When you become 65, you get counseled every five years on what amounts to your options on assited suicide. I am not making this up. There's also a youtube video of Fred Thompson talking about this. I'm sure BO's FORMER supporters in AARP will get this out in rapid order. This is the kind of crap pelosi didn't want us to read along with federally funded abortion and racial prefernces for med school entry. Check it out.

Only one good thing could come out of this ... Nancy Pelosi at the front of the euthanasia line.

I'm all for a health care program, but leave social security and medicare programs alone. I'm 55 and I'll need these programs that I've paid into all my life. Obama and the Democrats should be warned, the Baby-boomers make the largest voting block in the nation. Fool around with our benefit programs and you WILL be out of office next election. Oh, and by the way, I voted for you.

Martha, right-on with the editorial content but you really need an editor. There area about a dozen typos in this short piece. That makes it look a bit unprofessional.

    O. M. G. This is such nonsense. That anybody believes this crap only shows how much the fear tactics of the last 8 years still work on the simple-minded. Obama is NOT touching your Social Security, he's NOT touching your Medicare/aid, HE'S EXPANDING IT!! Any senior that collects Medicare/aid or Social Security can see just HOW WELL A GOVERNMENT SYSTEM WORKS!! How can you turn around and say the government should stay out of your government run healthcare? How mindless are you?

Another fantastic job of editing by the Examiner... While I know most of your readers can't read above a 5th grade level, you could atleast spell-check and grammar-check your work before printing it. That anyone could take this as credible news is astounding.

I'm with Nick on this one. This is another round of fear-mongering by the right. Where were the 'deathers' when Susan Collins (R) and others introduced the plan (same as in this one) to assure that older American be educated as to their rights re: end-of-life decisions?

I'm 66 and an AARP member and I fully support the president on health care reform.

  • I'm Melting 2 years ago

DRH, Maybe Pelosi would melt like the Wicked Witch in 'The Wizard of Oz' if somebody just would throw some water on her?

  • Ted Neros 2 years ago

Oh Martha. You are so obviously obvious. I am an AARP member and I don't think anything like you say I do. Please drop the cover and present some facts. We need to revamp the healthcare system which is now based on greed and profiteering.

  • Susan Holland 2 years ago

I don't like it when any organization (AARP) misrepresents their members, one way or the other. AARP wants to help the elderly but I
find the Healthcare Bill (go to //blog.flecksoflife.com for details) horrid.
AARP may be hoodwinked. Medicare and Medicaid
are breaking the States' budgets. Social Security would have been fine if Congress hadn't used funds for other programs. Having
been under a government health care program
the last 17 years has been an outright introduction into fraud, waste, and abuse.
Obviously, government cannot run anything well.

  • Dennis 2 years ago

Wishing it were so doesn't make it so, Martha. If you are going to make such claims, be prepared to back them up.

    Oh, that's right. You can't.

This is why the Examiner is lousy journalism -- any biased person can pretend to be a reporter. Avoid the Examiner- pass it on.

Also, do you have the right to those photos? You should display them so you keep the examiner out of a lawsuit.

As a 68-year-old senior, who can actually read, and think - and who writes for a living, and has done so all his life - I find this posting simple junk opinion.

    And as such, worthless.

One only hopes that readers don't mistake this kind of tripe for journalism, as opposed to emotional and groundless spew.

  • He Said She Said 2 years ago

@Seneca, then it's just like your comment, her opinion or yours, and I agree with her opinion, that's what makes America so great, Sayonara.

  • Pete 2 years ago

Tex says: "When you become 65, you get counseled every five years on what amounts to your options on assited suicide."

This refers to "living wills," something doctors have been encouraging for decades! More right-wing swill in the comments.

  • Tex 2 years ago

Pete: I don't believe it's about living wills. I beleive it's about not receiving end of life care. Before you attack, read it. Under B-HO's plan, take an aspirin and call me in the morning if you didn't get dead.
