Democratic Senator Buono picks up two more endorsements to defeat Christie

New Jersey State Senator Barbara Buono (D) has picked up two more endorsements in her quest to become the next Governor of the Garden State and thus far is the only challenger to announce her intentions to run against incumbent Governor Chris Christie according to a press release on Jan. 7, 2013

Buono’s latest endorsements come from Middlesex County Senators Bob Smith and Joe Vitale who stated “we are now approaching the State of the State with no unified voice for the Democratic Party vision. In Middlesex County we have endorsed the candidacy of Senator Barbara Buono because she represents a clear contrast to Chris Christie, she will stand up and fight for middle class taxpayers and, most importantly, she can win. Every day Democrats waste in not unifying behind the Buono for Governor campaign helps the Republican Party agenda. We feel strongly that it is time for candidates considering a run to finalize a decision so the Democratic Party can move forward and begin to get New Jersey back on the right track this November."

I spoke with Buono’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Waters, who stated that Buono has also secured the endorsements of all seven Middlesex County Freeholders, the Middlesex County Democratic Organization Chairman Peter Barnes, along with Middlesex County state legislators, mayors, and community leaders. Somerset County Democratic Chair Peg Schaffer has also endorsed Buono.

Waters also stated that Buono has raised approximately $250,000 in campaign funds.

The clock is ticking for the democrats to unite and rally behind candidates who will be running against Christie. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, considered the party favorite, has already announced he will not seek the party’s nomination and will consider running for the US Senate instead.
