Singer Al Green is in heaven on Earth these days. Not only did President Barack Obama sing a line from the song a week ago while at a campaign-fundraiser stop in New York City at Harlem’s Apollo Theater, but now the Democratic lawmakers are singing it to him.

While at the House Democratic lawmakers’ retreat in Cambridge, Maryland, Obama received a DVD that included a new version sung by 25 Democrats singing ‘We’re <instead of ‘I’m’> so in love with you.’ The singing group of Democrats reportedly recorded their version of the Al Green hit song from the 1970s on Thursday evening after a dinner they attended. No report as to how much alcohol was flowing, if any.
As a sidebar, Billboard Magazine – often referred to as the Bible of the music business – reports that the original Al Green hit recording of the song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ has dramatically increased in sales. With a jump of nearly 500% in sales, the pop-soul song was downloaded 16,000 times.
Additionally, earlier this week, it was reported that the Obama campaign is offering a clip of the president’s singing of a line of the song as a ring tone on Obama’s re-election website.
