When I first moved to Denver, people thought my generation was crazy, with our communes and vegetarian diets. Since then, Denver has become a mecca for those choosing holistic lifestyles and whole foods. Demi Moore once symbolized what we were all striving for. She was reknowned for her ageless beauty and the raw food diet that promoted her good health.
Demi Moore is now obsessed with staying young and thin. So much so that her daily diet of late has consisted of three red bulls, a lettuce leaf and a tablespoon of tuna, according to the Chicago Sun Times. Of course she wouldn't be the first star to succumb to the pressures of stardom.
Celebrities always seem to be toting one diet or another. Demi is far from alone when it comes to crazy celebrity diets.
Remember Reese Witherspoon and the baby food diet? It doesn't end there.
Shapely Beyonce tried the Master Cleanse program; A weight loss toxin cleanse based on drinking water with lemon, maple syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper to flush the system. She even added a laxative for good measure.
According to Elle magazine, Jaime Pressly (of My Name is Earl fame) and Sarah Michelle Gellar sing the praises of the cabbage soup diet. What is the cabbage soup diet? Well, here's how Elle describes it, “Besides cabbage soup, you’re allowed only veggies, fruit, skim milk, low-fat yogurt, tea, and coffee for seven days straight. Sure, you can add bananas on day four, with lean meat and brown rice by day six, but side effects include sugar cravings, mood swings, and low energy levels.”
An article in Popcrunch reminded me of a few more celebrity weight loss stories.
- When Oprah jumped on the Acai band-wagon, she had the whole country drinking buckets of acai juice for weight loss.
- You could always have your face analyzed for weight loss, like Kate Winslet. She used it to lose pregnancy weight.
- Can aromatherapy help with weight loss? Jennifer Lopez is rumored to carry a vial of grapefruit oil. Why? Because smelling it supposedly stimulates nerves that break down fat.
It's sad that Demi Moores career in the spotlight has her taking drastic measures to stay thin. All she really needs is a healthy balanced diet, rich in antioxidants combined with regular exercise. Just like we all do.
