Demi Lovato, 20, has revealed that she thinks she took her "X Factor" job too soon after she got out of rehab, but she has no regrets. She made the confession in the Spring 2013 issue of Cosmo on Campus, which went on sale on February 6, 2013.
Lovato became an "X Factor" U.S. judge in May 2012. From late 2010 to early 2011, she was in rehab for substance abuse, eating disorders and self-harming. She has also been open in telling the public that she is bipolar. Lovato has hinted in interviews that she relapsed after getting out of rehab, but she did not specify when the relapse(s) happened.
Lovato told Cosmo on Campus (a spinoff publication of Cosmopolitan magazine's U.K. edition): "I dived into work really quickly and maybe that wasn’t the best idea at the time, but the place I am in today is so much better than I could have ever imagined, so I’m really glad. It is very unhealthy when girls devote all of their time to a guy and forget their friends and family. I did that. I was always looking for distractions because I was so afraid of being alone.
"I have spent the last year focusing on myself and it’s been incredible. More has come out of the past year than in my entire career so far, and I truly believe it was because I was taking care of myself and not focusing on guys. I’m in a place where I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous."
Lovato's ex-boyfriends include actor Wilmer Valderrama and singer Joe Jonas. Even though Lovato and One Direction's Niall Horan have admitted to having crushes on each other, they have said in many interviews that they are "just friends."
Lovato has also talked about her recovery from her addictions in many interviews. She told the media on several occasions that she is not interested in having a serious boyfriend or dating a lot right now because she wants to focus on her recovery and her career. In January 2013, it was revealed that Lovato has been living in a sober house since 2012 with other roommates in recovery.
While Lovato waits to hear if she will be asked back on "The X Factor" U.S., she has two concerts scheduled for March 2013: Universal Studios Orlando in Florida on March 6 and Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines on March 20.
As previously reported, Lovato is one of the stars participating in CBS's "The Price Is Right" Celebrity Week that will be televised from February 18 to February 22, 2013. The celebrities on the game show are playing for their selected charities. Lovato's "Price Is Right" episode airs on February 22, 2013. She is playing for the charity Free the Children.
In January 2013, Lovato tweeted that she has been recording her fourth album, whose title and release date are to be announced.
The complete judging panel "The X Factor" U.S. in 2013 has not been announced yet.
On "The X Factor" U.S., executive producer Simon Cowell is the only judge guaranteed so far in 2013. Britney Spears and Antonio "L.A." Reid have announced their departures from "The X Factor" U.S., and their replacements have not yet been named. It has not been announced if Lovato will continue to be a judge on the show in 2013.
The 2013 judging panel for the show should be officially announced by May, which is the month that auditions begin in front of the judges. "X Factor" producers, not the judges, make the selections at auditions that happen before then.
