Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have recorded a duet that will be on his third solo album, which is due out on Island Records. The titles and release dates of the song and album are to be announced, but on July 30, 2014, E! News reported that Jonas confirmed the duet after he and Lovato had been hinting about it on social media. Jonas commented on the duet to E! News: "We did one for my record. It's a great song that we both love. Her voice is just amazing on it. She's the real deal. It's the perfect fit for this record." The song "Chains" is the first single from the album.
Jonas used to be part of the trio the Jonas Brothers (whose other members were Joe and Kevin Jonas), which disbanded in 2013. Nick Jonas' first solo album, Nicholas Jonas, was released in 2004 before the Jonas Brothers became famous. His second solo album was 2010's, Who I Am, which was released under the name Nick Jonas & the Administration.
Nick Jonas and Lovato have collaborated on numerous projects. She and the Jonas Brothers co-starred in Disney Channel's "Camp Rock" movies. Lovato and the Jonas Brothers also toured together in 2010, the same year that Lovato briefly dated Nick's brother Joe Jonas.
In 2012, when Lovato was a judge on "The X Factor" she recruited Nick to be a guest mentor to help her decide which "X Factor" contestants in her mentored group would be go on to perform in the live episodes. In addition, Nick has occasionally performed on stage with Lovato at her concerts.
Lovato was a judge on "The X Factor" in 2012 and 2013. She quit "The X Factor" at the end of the show's third season in December 2013 because she said she wanted to focus on her music career. In February 2014, Fox officially cancelled "The X Factor".
In 2014, Lovato has been busy touring in support of her fourth album, Demi, which was released in 2013. Her "Neon Lights" tour took place in the U.S. and Canada in February and March 2014, in South America in April and May 2014, and Mexico in May 2014. Lovato's Demi world tour goes to North America in September and October 2014 and to Europe in November 2014. Lovato's current single "Really Don't Care" (featuring Cher Lloyd, a former "X Factor" U.K. finalist) is a No. 30 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "Really Don't Care" is the fourth single from the Demi album.
