Demi Lovato quits Twitter: Accuses gossip sites of making up stories

Demi Lovato has had to deal with her fair share of media attention. Currently Demi is dealing with the speculation from people wondering if she might be cut from the hit entertainment reality TV show “X Factor.” Pop Crush reported on Saturday, Jan. 5 that Demi has also decided to take a break from Twitter because of media attention. Apparently, Demi is fed up with negativity and overly presumptuous gossip sites.

Demi Lovato just finished up the second season of “X Factor” as a coach of the young adults category. Unfortunately, Demi was the first coach to have all her members eliminated from the competition. Due to her lack of success many speculate that Simon Cowell may fire her from “X Factor.”

On Thursday, Demi posted to Twitter about the importance of trust in a friendship.

“Patience + communication = trust When you learn how to communicate with others, there’s almost no problem you can’t solve.” She added, “P.S. Only surround yourself with people who you CAN communicate with. Trust is a bond between TWO people that is found ONLY when they are able to listen/understand where the other person is coming from. That to me, is the key to friendships/ relationships.”

The tweet immediately had the media wondering if she was having relationship issues with current boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. The attention to a simple post on Twitter by certain gossip sites upset Demi Lovato. After apparently viewing too many negative posts about her relationship because of her tweet, Demi decided it was time to take a break from Twitter.

“I don’t get how people get “stories” from very vague twitter posts… About friendship…..??” She added, “Blehh. I really love my fans but I hate gossip sites… Gonna take a breather from twitter.. I love y’all!”

There are certain negatives that come with being a celebrity, a major one for many entertainers is having to deal with the press. However, they also realize that without the attention of the media they couldn't accurately do their job. Therefore, sometimes it's considered a double-edged sword.

John F. Kennedy once stated that without the media people could not do their job at all.

There is a terrific disadvantage in not having the abrasive quality of the press applied to you daily. Even though we never like it, and even though we wish they didn't write it, and even though we disapprove, there isn't any doubt that we could not do the job at all in a free society without a very, very active press. -- John F. Kennedy

However, in Demi's case she is claiming the media is making up stories where none exists. Is this still considered news even though Demi's claiming it's just gossip? Do you think Demi did the right thing by signing off Twitter for a while?
