A few hours after Demi Lovato had a crushing defeat on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 5, 2013 (the last two contestants she mentored were eliminated on the same night), Lovato put on a brave face to attend Nylon and McDonald's December 2013/January 2014 issue launch party in West Hollywood, Calif.
Lovato (who's on the cover of Nylon's December 2013/January 2014 issue) was the host of the party, which didn't have a lot of celebrities in attendance. However, "The X Factor" U.S. host Mario Lopez was there. And so were Lovato's boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama and her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas. Jonas is dating graphic designer Blanda Eggenschwiler, who was with him at the party.
As previously reported, Jonas (who briefly dated Lovato in 2010) revealed in a New York magazine essay that he smoked marijuana for the first time with Lovato and Miley Cyrus, who both urged him to do it, according to Jonas.
Apparently, Lovato (who is 21) isn't upset over this public confession, since she tweeted after the article was published: "@joejonas love you brother. #family/friendsforever."
It's not a shock that Lovato has experience using illegal drugs, since she publicly admitted years ago that she's a recovering drug addict. She famously went into rehab in late 2010 for substance abuse, eating disorders and self-harming. Lovato has also gone public about being bioplar.
According to omg! Yahoo, Lovato further commented at the Nylon/McDonald's party on what she thought of Jonas' public confessions to New York magazine: "My first reaction was, 'Well, that was stupid. But we are always going to be in each other's lives. I was with Nick [Jonas] today and they are family. I've known them since I was 14, 15, and I have a lot of love for them ... He never shared his side of the story and what he had to go through when we were friends or whatever. I was like, 'Choose your words more carefully next time, but whatever, you're fine!'"
The party that Lovato hosted had such little star power that besides Lovato, Lopez, Valderrama and Jonas, the only other recognizable celebrity there was Kat Graham from "The Vampire Diaries." The rest were models and actors/actresses who were far from A-list. (For example, people like a forgotten contestant on "America's Next Top Model" or actresses who have bit parts in B-movies.) If you consider that a "celebrity," then the party was packed with "celebrities."
It's also worth noting that Lopez was the only "X Factor" star to come out to support Lovato at the party. Where were her fellow "X Factor" U.S. judges? Simon Cowell usually avoids celebrity parties, so it's no surprise he wasn't there. Paulina Rubio is a single mother of a 3-year-old child, so maybe that was her excuse. But why wasn't Kelly Rowland there? We can only speculate. Lovato must not have been happy that Rowland (who is her closest colleague on "The X Factor" judging panel) voted to eliminate contestant Rion Paige, who was the last of Lovato's contestants to be eliminated.
