The Earthwise Society organized another farm fresh event yesterday - this year highlighting heirloom tomatoes, fresh produce and local independent vendors. Inspite of the threat of rain, enthusiastic visitors gathered to try tasty treats, view the glorious gardens and farm plantings while also listening to live music.

Shoppers were able to buy local products from vendors and fresh organic produce grown at the farm.Vancouver chef, Derek Bothwell of Gastown's Chill Winston restaurant, at the Earthwise outdoor cobb oven, presented freshly-baked flatbread delicacies. Vendors were selling a variety of products including olive oils, kale chips, honey from the Earthwise hives, dairy-free organic chocolate, baked goods, soup and salad mixes and much more.

Earthwise Society operates the Boundary Bay Earthwise Garden and organically-certified Earthwise Farm on a three-acre site in Tsawwassen British Columbia. Patricia Fleming, Executive Director, emphasizes that: “The Society has as its mission to act as a catalyst for the creation of sustainable communities through empowering individuals to take responsibility for social, economic and environmental well-being.”

A significant amount of funds raised from Earthwise events, including their yearly 100-Mile Banquet, goes toward youth environmental education. Earthwise can be contacted at 604-946-9828, e-mail: or Earthwise website to find out about future events or to volunteer your talents.

As an added service, the Earthwise CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program provides subscriber members with one box per week of fresh, organic produce for 20 weeks from June – October. One of their other sustainability programs is called Shared Harvest, whereby local garden produce and fruit from trees - that might be wasted - is gathered and distributed to charitable groups.
