The Orlando Sentinel reports a story about Delta removing passengers from their flight so University of Florida basketball players could use the plane. On Sunday, the Florida Gators were scheduled to fly to Connecticut to play UConn on Monday night. The plane originally scheduled to transport the Gators experienced mechanical problems, which left the team without a flight.
Delta then removed passengers from Connection Flight 5059 and offered it to the basketball team. One woman said Delta told passengers they would have to exit the plane because of mechanical failures, but some passengers watched Gator basketball players board the plane.
One passenger missed a funeral while others became stranded until Monday. The Gators did make it to Connecticut to play their scheduled game. Ironically, the Gators lost the game 65-64.
