Delta offers TSA PreCheck

See also

Delta Airlines recently launched TSA PreCheck, a passenger screening initiative in which shoes, jackets, and belts stay on, and laptops stay in.

Think of it as a lightweight Global Entry, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that expedites clearances for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon their entry to the United States.

Delta's TSA PreCheck is reserved for SkyMiles frequent flyer members, who are asked to log into profiles and enter name, gender and date of birth in the Secure Flight Passenger Data section. The information must match passport or deriver's license records.

Applicants must be either a U.S. or Canadian citizen, and as mentioned, - a SkyMiles member. After the information is entered, Delta shares it with the TSA Secure Flight system, which approves it, or kicks it back. A barcode for those then enrolled in TSA PreCheck appears on boarding passes, indicating eligibility.

Speedier, more efficient screening

Delta's launch of TSA PreCheck is thought to speed the process of passenger and baggage screening, and may help turn an often vexing and clumsy process into something more streamlined. The other bonus for passengers? They'll consider it a perk, say industry experts, and one that's offered at no charge. That could count a lot for an industry that has increasingly been charging passengers for various fees for several years.
